Gua Sha
Gua Sha is a scraping technique used to help the body release pathogenic factors in acute conditions. It is used in folk medicine throughout Asia. “Gua” means “rub” or “friction”. “Sha” describes the stagnation of fluids and blood on the body surface.
Gua Sha is administered in certain areas by applying pressure in strokes on the surface of the skin. This method is effective in treating blood stasis, Qi stagnation, pain and swelling. It is even used in order to help the body recover quickly from colds. The effect is similar to that of cupping.
