Bladder Infection (Cystitis)
The most common cause of cystitis from a conventional medicine perspective is bacterial infection. In general, bacteria from the intestines travel to the bladder through urethra. Due to the proximity of the bowel and urethral openings and the short length of the urethra, women are more frequently affected by the problem than men.
From the TCM perspective, bladder infections are caused by damp-heat in the bladder. Treatment assists the body in discharging moisture and in cooling the heat in the bladder. This approach quickly alleviates the symptoms and additionally strengthens the bladder (bladder qi) to prevent further bladder infections.
